King's Shilling Recruiting Party Living History Group

WELCOME TO THE King's Shilling
Napoleonic Military Recruiting Party Living History Group

A group of friends decided that a multi-period living history event in the summer of 2015 wouldn't be complete without the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo being acknowledged. Our first event saw three seasoned reenactors portray a sailor/ marine, 40th Rgt of Foot sergeant and 95th Rgt of Foot (Rifles) sergeant all vying for the new recruits who would visit the brightly coloured and detailed camp.
Although we are fully aware that the real recruiting parties of the time did not operate with multiple regiments and services in one place, the camp's arrangement gave a unique, entertaining and educational setting to be able to talk and demonstrate the similarities and differences between the regiment's equipment and functions in a way that single battalion groups can not cover.
The event was received so well that we decided to continue and expand the group, which now includes a few new recruits and a couple of ladies to give a more rounded view of the lives of those affected by the Napoleonic wars and those who made up the units of King George's Army & Navy (and those who were left behind).
The Group's founding members are:
Matthew North - Company Sergeant - 95th Regiment of Foot (Rifles)
Anthony Askew - Recruiting Sergeant - 40th Regenment of Foot (2nd Somersetshire)
Nigel Aimes - Royal Marine/ Royal Navy Sailor
